This year’s kindness week at a BHA brought our elementary, middle, and high school students together for a celebration of kindness, compassion, and positivity. Each day of the week featured a unique themed outfit that students could wear, along with small daily acts of kindness. Each day served as encouragement for students to reflect on the impact of small, meaningful gestures. The message of this week was clear; kindness begins with all of us.

To start off the week, on Monday, you were able to wear a superhero themed shirt, something loose or long being acceptable. Examples could be of superheroes like Batman, Superman, or Spiderman! Not only that, but the kind act for the day was to hold the door open for someone, whether it be a teacher or student. This was in line with kindness, since cosplaying as a superhero is a great way to spread kindness as well as positivity around the school, creating a good vibe. It’s kind of like the old saying: kindness is a superpower!
The next day, you were allowed to wear a piece of shiny clothing. To be more specific, boys were to wear a shiny shirt, and girls were to wear a shiny hijab. This was to show that kindness is a shiny and great thing to be shown and practiced. The act for the day was to say Salam to as many people as you could around the school.
On Wednesday, you were allowed to wear a jersey of your favorite sports team. This was to show that kindness is a team sport, and that we should each show kindness to one another as Muslims within our school. The act for the day was to help a teacher or student out with something, whether it be a question, homework, a quick errand, or anything else!
Next on Thursday, our kindness began to get quite classy. More specifically, you were allowed to show up in a dress shirt and tie for boys, or a dress for girls. This kind of wear is able to set a good example of respect and positivity around the school, further adding to the kindness. The act for the day was a bit different too: help your parents out at home with a chore or task.

Lastly, on Friday, it was time to finalize our kindness in the best way possible, that being to connect it to Islam and our identities as Muslims! You could wear a thobe for boys, or a closed abaya for girls. The act for the day was to check up on any friend or family member and see how they were doing. This shows how kindness is an important part of Islam, as a thobe represents the modesty and dignity of a Muslim, showing respect for faith while encouraging positive interactions between students at our school.

Kindness week proved to be something more than just fun and cool outfits. More than just getting out of school uniform for a day or two, it was a meaningful reminder of the impact small actions can have on our family, friends, friends, and the community as a whole. Whether through a meaningful smile, a kind Salam, or even just checking up on someone close to you, remember to stay kind. Kindness week highlighted that creating a positive environment is something everyone has to contribute towards. After all, even one small act of kindness can make someone’s day better.
