“Thank You” a speaker says, and the crowd applauds. It’s Friday, February 6th. The hallways at Brighter Horizons Academy (BHA) are desolate, but there is a hum of activity coming from the multi-purpose hall (MPH). TED Talk night has begun. Dozens of parents and teachers are seated at the tables in the MPH, waiting for the night to begin. The MPH is set up for the occasion, with large round tables, plenty of chairs and a standi n the back for snacks. The main attraction of the night is a stage set up in the front, equipped with fairy lights, red spotlights, and with glowing letters spelling “TED” next to the stage.
“Asalamoalikum, welcome everyone!”, Ms. Hilary, the mentor of the club, says. Club members sit at their table, nervous to stand on stage, yet exited at the same time. Before the event starts. people go to grab food from the tables in the back. There is an assortment of different foods and drinks, ranging from cookies to samosas to manakish. Afterwards, people settle down and the event begins. Speaker after speaker climbs the stage and gives their speech. The talks span a wide variety of topics, from procrastination to aliens.
Halfway through the event, Ms. Hilary announces, “Maghrib salah will be held in the gym.” After salah, everyone returns to the MPH and the talks continue. Each TED talk is accompanied by slides that show relevant visuals. Parents, teachers, and other audience members listen attentively to what the students have to say about their topics.
Compared to the previous years, this year’s TED Talk Night was claimed by many as “much more organized”. Ahmed Sajjad, the President of BHA’s TED Talk club said, “I think it went by really smoothly since we had a larger budget. We could invest in more things for the setup and in better food catering”. As highlighted by Sajjad, the stage setup was noticeably elegant. With more decoration than the previous years, the small finishing details really brought the night and vibe to life.
After all the conclusion of all 21 speeches, Ms. Hilary once again boarded the stage and announced, “Now we would like to present the old and new members of the TED talk club with certificates for their hard work and dedication towards the club”. The crowd erupted into cheers. One by one, Ms. Hilary called student after student onto the stage, presenting them with their certificate of participation. The photographers and parents snapped pictures with their cameras and phones, hoping to capture these little moments that truly matter.
Overall, TED Talk Night 2026 was worth remembering. From the little decorative details to the speeches themselves, the event was close to perfect. Over years and years of such nights, board members and students of the club have near perfected the occasion, while consistently enabling it to truly be a night full of “ideas worth spreading.”
