Winter break is arriving and along with it, two weeks of pure free time. Why not make some money during that time? We all want to make money. But how and where? This article is going to help you answer these questions and make sure you make the right decisions when deciding your first job. All websites to sign up are at within the article.
Before we answer the question of where to work you should also realize that getting a job at such a young age, especially for the lowerclassmen, benefits your college resume. Colleges want to know that you can function independently and can rely on yourself. It shows that when you want something you will strive to achieve it without asking others to help you or giving up. This winter break is a great starting point as you have a ton of time on your hands and do not have to worry about schoolwork.
The first job that you can have during winter break is a referee at Plano Sports Authority (PSA). You can be a referee at multiple sports including soccer, volleyball, and basketball. This is a great starting point and the most recommended by PSA referees at BHA, like Fares Tashtoush, who said, “I recommend PSA refereeing as a first job for students under 16.” You can start off as a timekeeper, keeping track of scores, fouls, and the time. This position pays around $8.50 every 50 minutes. If you think you have got the hang of timekeeping you can then promote yourself to a referee. This position involves focus, coordination with others, and knowing how to defend your authority against people who will criticize your calls, like parents and coaches. According to Yousuf Jisri, “PSA refereeing is difficult,” but this position pays much more at around $17-25 every 50 minutes. Compared to other jobs, this job is by the far one of the simplest and most recommended for first timers and the lowerclassmen. The minimum age is 14 for working at PSA.

Some students actually work for their parents by doing chores. Doing chores is a great idea to help out at your home while still getting some extra cash. Although you won’t be showing this on your college resume, it’s a great way to use your time.
If you want a specific kind of job that suits specifically you or your future career, try looking for part-time jobs on websites like Ziprecruiter, or Indeed. You can find businesses that need your help and that are offering to pay you for it.
Lastly, if you are an upperclassman who is 16 and above, then you by far have the largest variety of places to work at. Examples include Chick-fil-a, Taco Bell, theaters, DoorDash, and so many others. The most popular kind of jobs for upperclassman are restaurants and fast food franchises, according to Restaurant Business. These are especially convenient for teenagers who have a lot of time on their hands and could use some extra money for their college fund.
