The BHA MIST Volleyball team congratulate eachother after scoring a point.

As MIST (Muslim Inter-Scholastic Tournament) sports day continued, on the other side of Richardson from the boys basketball game, raged on girls volleyball. Hosted at IANT (the Islamic Association of North Texas) Quranic Academy, the tournament saw six schools face off in endless games for six hours.

Our girls team excitedly prepared for the tournament weeks prior and had been looking forward to competition day. When asked about it on the morning of the game, Junior player on the BHA MIST Volleyball team, Tala Mahmoud said, “I’m a little nervous because I hadn’t played volleyball in a while but I think our team has put in the work and is ready for today!”

Junior, Lyane Sawas, serves during the MIST Volleyball tournament.

What Mahmoud hadn’t seen coming was the rousing success her team was about to have. Kicking off their first game with a long time rival, the Islamic School of Irving, the BHA team immediately displayed their talent and dedication on the court. Winning 32-25, the girls became the highest ranked team immediately and carried that title for the rest of the tournament. The team went on to play two more games against Harmony and Coppell High plus IANT Quranic Academy coalition, winning both with outstanding scores! The talent on court was unmatched and the energy was strong as the games continued and the audience’s cheers raged on.

In the end there was only one clear winner, who still remains undefeated second year in a row, and that was the BHA team. Our team played their way to victory and placed first in MIST Dallas Volleyball Regionals! They played wonderfully and skillfully, and we can’t wait to see more at MIST nationals!
