Hello BHA Stars, and welcome to your monthly Horizon Highlights-a general recap of everything that has happened on campus this past month. As expected, November flew by without a doubt. It still feels like early November with the cool temperatures, the chance to finally wear a hoodie outside, and the fact that students are now fully settling into the rhythm of the school year
Starting off the month was the end of the Literati book fair on Friday, November 1st. After the weekend, on Monday, November 4th, students were greeted back into school with an ice cream sale during lunchtimes on the main campus, to support the athletics department. That Wednesday, November 6th, seniors hosted a brownie sundae sale to help fund their annual Umrah Trip that will take place during spring break. We wish them success, InshaAllah!
The next day, Thursday, November 7th, marked the beginning of the STUCO Hygiene Drive on the main campus. Each grade was assigned a donation item, and the grade with the most donations would win a prize! The next week at school, the week of November 9th to 15th, was kindness week, and students were encouraged to remember that kindness is an integral part of our religion and lives. With different clothing items representing different elements of kindness, like a superhero shirt on Monday showing kindness is super, students were reminded that they should strive to always be kind. Also that week was the release of PSAT scores, which was undoubtedly an anxiety-inducing time for students. “All the high schoolers were lined up outside the college counselor’s room,” recalls Sophomore Eman Hayee, “and I was really anxious to get my score.” I wish all students success and stellar scores InshaAllah!
On Wednesday, November 13th, the BHA Boys Basketball Buyout game featured an showdown between the staff and the varsity basketball team. The game saw the staff closely beat the students in a lively game. Despite the students’ strong efforts, the staff managed a narrow victory, winning by just a single shot in extra time. This event featured BHA’s brand new mascot, who cheered for both teams and posed with students for photos. The game was filled with energy and showcased the spirit of friendly competition at BHA. It was a memorable event for both the players and those watching alike.
That Friday, November 15th, pronounced the middle of the quarter, and interim report cards were issued. Though it seems impossible, quarter two is almost coming to an end. And with that, the first half of the 2024-2025 school year will be over. This is a really good reminder to take advantage of our time spent everyday, because sooner or later, we’re all definitely going to look back on our days here at BHA.
The next Wednesday, November 20th, was an iconic BHA staple-the nacho sale! Middle and high school pupils enjoyed nachos during their lunch break. With just one week to go before Thanksgiving break, the motivation was high around campus, with students diligently studying and securing those A’s. The next week was relatively calm, with an excited buzz around school in excitement for break. And then finally, the month concluded with Thanksgiving break, which started on November 27th. Many students traveled, but some, such as myself, stayed home, and enjoyed the cooler weather and chance to catch up on some much-needed rest. Spending time outdoors and with family in the spirit of Thanksgiving was definitely an important part of enjoying the break for staff and students alike.
Speaking of Thanksgiving- it’s important for us to think often about everything we have to be thankful for. We cannot count the blessings that Allah SWT has given us, so we can at least try our best to be grateful for them. I was especially grateful for warm clothes and food, because it was definitely chilly by the end of the month. Being thankful for things in your life is definitely a key step in the path of success and overall contentment.
And with that, the month of November is over. With December comes midterm exams, project grades, and winter break! The end of November was clearly a cheerful one, with students and staff relaxing during Thanksgiving break and celebrating the passing of yet another month of the school year.
Thank you for reading, and see you in December!
