NHS And NJHS Induction Ceremony

The National Honor Society (NHS) and the National Junior Honor Society (NJHS), are organizations that recognize and celebrate students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of

scholarship, leadership, service, and character. Membership is based on a combination of academic achievement, as well as a commitment to community service and leadership. Joining NHS or NJHS can provide students with the opportunity to connect with like-minded peers who share a passion for excellence. 10th to 12th grade students are eligible for NHS, while students in 7th and 8th grades are eligible for NJHS.

Being eligible is no easy feat, as high school students are required to have a numeric average of 90 based on grades from the previous year. They are also expected to commit 20 hours of volunteering to NHS outside of graduation requirements.

In addition, NHS looks for student leaders who are resourceful, good problem solvers, and idea contributors. Leadership experiences can be drawn from school or community activities while working with or for others. Lastly, they look for students of good character, demonstrating high standards of honesty and reliability, showing courtesy, concern, and respect for others.

On a special note, being in NHS for two years allows you to receive an NHS pendant stole on graduation, and being in NHS in your senior year, allows you to be eligible to receive an NHS cord on graduation day.

On October 23rd 2024, the Academy hosted their in-house NHS and NJHS induction ceremony in the auditorium. Members were in formal wear as they received their certificates of membership with family and friends congratulating them in the audience. The event started with Quran recitation by junior Laith Hajsaleh, then a quick introduction of NHS is by the President Alainah Ali, senior. Over 100 students were inducted into NJHS this year and around 30 students into NHS.
