Hello BHA Stars, and welcome to your monthly Horizon Highlights- a general recap of everything that has happened on campus this past month. Can you believe it has been a month already? It feels like time is just flying by. Let’s do a review of all the things that happened during the month of October on campus, which was packed with incredible events and lots of homework.
We started our month with a popcorn sale during middle and high school lunch on Wednesday, October 2nd, hosted by the seniors. I remember the hallways smelling like a movie theater throughout the day, students enjoying a fun snack with their lunches. That Friday, October 4th, an ice cream sale hosted by the BHA Volleyball department brought a refreshing, cold start to our unfortunately warm weather. (Be on the lookout for a Hot Cocoa sale soon, to celebrate the cooling weather!)
The week of October 7th was definitely packed. This was “Fire Prevention Week”, where a fire truck visited the elementary students, and they learned about safety measures taken to prevent fire damages. This was definitely a fun week for elementary schoolers, as they also enjoyed a cookie sale on Wednesday, October 9th. Also on that day was the end of quarter one, and inshallah all students were pleased with their grades! Quarter two started the next day, and marked a fresh start for students and staff alike. On Monday, October 14, report cards were issued, and anxiety definitely ramped up. “It was definitely a stressful Monday,” says Sophomore Zaynab Kazi on receiving her report card. “All the students were walking around checking Sycamore super often, and teachers were definitely trying to squeeze in those last few grades.”
As a reminder for any students struggling with homework or any school-related stress, please remember to take breaks accordingly. I really hope that fall break, which lasted October 16 through 20, was a peaceful and relaxing rest for everyone. Students and teachers were given a nice chance to reset and prepare for the coming week. The cooler weather during break was definitely a great chance to take a walk outside and enjoy nature, which is one of my favorite ways to alleviate stress. If anyone needs help dealing with problems or emotions, be sure to utilize BHA’s many ways of seeking help, such as the “STOPit” app or talking to a counselor or friend.
The week of October 21st was “Character Counts Week”, where students are reminded that one of the most important aspects of their lives is how they treat others. As said by the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), “Do not treat people but in the way you would love to be treated by them.” So, remember to treat others with kindness! On that Wednesday, October, 23rd, main building students enjoyed nachos during lunch. “Honestly, nacho sales are definitely a staple here at BHA,” states 7th grader Nadine Hussien, “and me and my friends always look forward to it.”
On Friday, October 25th, BHA hosted one of many senior “Life Skills Seminars”, which will take place throughout the year. Dinner was served and high school seniors were taught important financial skills to help them throughout their adult lives. Then, in the week of the 28th, BHA started hosting the Literati book fair, both online and in the ECE musallah. Don’t forget to check it out and buy a few books! And, this last week of October was the anticipated day for millions of high schoolers around the country…PSATs! Inshallah all students studied hard and will receive stellar scores. While PSATs stressed out high schoolers and eighth graders, these students could have taken a break by buying a brownie sundae on Wednesday the 30th, to support the senior umrah trip. And, on the last night of October, Friday Oct.31st, many students including myself looked forward to the PTO Fall Fest. The staff here at the BHA Post are working diligently to release an article on this event soon.
What a wonderful way to end the month! I hope that everyone had a wonderful October, and I look forward to writing another article for November, which I guarantee will fly by just as fast as October did. Enjoy your weekend and have a great month!
