As the leaves of trees change color and the sunshine wanes, the arrival of autumn brings all sorts of new changes, not just in weather. The crisp autumn air welcomes new possibilities for memories and adventures that you don’t want to miss out on. From cozy bonfires to vibrant pumpkin patches, this season offers various activities that you might have never thought of. After speaking with students about their thoughts on how best to celebrate fall, here is a mix of outdoor adventures and cozy indoor traditions that capture the essence of this time of year.

One of the most popular ways to make most of this autumn is by taking a walk in nature. With leaves turning shades of red, orange, and gold, a simple stroll through the park can be a beautiful experience. The crisp autumn air, the slight breeze of the wind, and the crunch of the fallen leaves creates the perfect environment to relax and enjoy. Sophomore, Zaynab Kazi, describes her love for this seasonal tradition. “A walk through the woods in fall is magical. The colors are breathtaking, and it’s a perfect way to unwind after a busy school week,” she said. Whether you’re walking alone or with company, the cool air and vibrant foliage make this an activity everyone can enjoy.

For those who prefer to enjoy the beauty of fall from the warmth of their car, late-night drives are an ideal option. Junior Mariam Khan shared her thoughts on the simple joy of a peaceful autumn drive. “There’s something so calming about taking a late-night drive in the fall. The roads are quiet, the sun is fading, its light shining on the gold specks of leaves, and the trees look so beautiful,” she said. Driving around the city with the windows slightly cracked and your favorite surah of the Quran playing, late-night drives offer a serene way to experience the season’s changing landscape.

As temperatures dip, cozy bonfires can be a perfect way to spend an evening with friends or family. Freshman, Amna Rana, said gathering around a fire with friends is one of her top fall traditions. “I love having bonfires with my friends in the fall. We make s’mores, tell stories, and just relax by the fire. The heat of the fire comforts me from the cold night air that autumn brings,” she shared. The warmth of the fire, the laughter of loved ones and the smoky scent in the air make for a perfect night outdoors.

Visiting a pumpkin patch is definitely a must for fall, and it’s not just for kids. From hayrides to corn mazes, pumpkin patches offer fun for all ages. Sophomore, Noor Hussien, who grew up in New York, recalls her experience of pumpkin patches as a hijabi. “I grew up in upstate New York, and fall is in full swing usually by September. My favorite part of fall was always apple picking and the pumpkin patches, where we would drive up to the farm orchards and pick apples and pumpkins for hours, with fresh apple cider donuts in our hands. Plus, as a hijabi, fall is the perfect time to pull out the hijabi friendly hoodies and sweaters,” said Hussien. The festive atmosphere, coupled with the opportunity to make pumpkin pie, makes it a beloved fall tradition.

While outdoor activities dominate fall, the season also offers cozy indoor pleasures—like lighting seasonal candles. With scents such as cinnamon, pumpkin spice, and apple pie filling the air, autumn candles create the perfect cozy atmosphere. Whether you are just browsing a store’s seasonal collection or lighting one at home, these warm scents are a delightful part of fall.

Whether it’s hiking through colorful foliage, enjoying a bonfire, or browsing for the perfect autumn candle, fall offers something for everyone. As the season unfolds, it’s the perfect time to slow down, appreciate the beauty around us, and indulge in the simple joys that make autumn special.
