“She makes everyone in her class feel special; she makes me especially feel special. I love her.” Nadeen Zidan, a senior and a BHA student for three years admires her favorite teacher, Ms. Nouhad Sahyouni. Describing Ms. Sahyouni as a “ray of sunshine,” Zidan’s words reveal how a teacher’s kindness has impact on students’ lives.
Unaza Khan, a senior who has been at BHA for seven years, shared her admiration for a teacher who hasn’t even taught her. Ms. Susan Almasri, a younger teacher, stands out for her approachable and empowering words that resonate with Khan’s beliefs. Ms. Almasri’s unique qualities lie in her relatability; students feel a sense of ease approaching her. Khan’s words capture the essence of a teacher who not only conveys knowledge, but also promotes a supportive atmosphere where students feel they can thrive.
Khan says, “The way she talks makes me feel empowered in a sense, I feel like I can do better,”, while describing Ms. Almasri.
Leen Sunnoqrot, another senior, has carried words of wisdom from Ms. Aisha Ashraf since her 10th-grade year. To her, Ms. Ashraf has become a guide through the challenges of high school.
Sunnoqrot elaborates on how Ms. Ashraf contributed to her success throughout the years. “She makes me feel like I can do whatever it takes to pass her class,” she remarks.
For Sunnoqrot, who has been a student of Ms. Ashraf for 4 years, Ms. Ashraf’s influence extends beyond academics. She not only feels empowered to conquer exams, but she also believes that she can overcome any challenge, a strong indicator of the influence teachers can have on their students.
